Mathare Community Park Celebrates 2 Years of Transformation
The Mathare Community Park has reached a major milestone, marking two years since its transformation from a hazardous dumping site into a thriving community hub. Hundreds of residents gathered to celebrate the journey.
What began as an illegal dumping site is now one of Mathare's most-used public spaces. Over the past two years, GreenPekee volunteers and MaSCA members cleared the ground, built seating, and planted the trees that now shade the open-air library nearby. The anniversary gathering brought together long-time residents, GreenPekee staff, and children from the feeding program for a shared meal and an afternoon of games — a reminder that the park's upkeep depends on the same community that built it.
